Dr. Rahul Thakurta
Rahul Thakurta is an Associate Professor of Information Systems at Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB), India. He did his bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering from IIEST Shibpur (erstwhile BE College) in 2000. After passing out, he worked in Tata Consultancy Services for 4 years in the information technology domain before deciding to pursue PhD. He received his Fellowship in Management Information Systems from Indian Institute of Management Calcutta, in 2009. He joined XIMB in 2010 and is continuing henceforth. At XIMB, he has taught courses related to information systems and decision science. Rahul Thakurta has been working in the fields related to information systems development and management. His broad research interests include areas like planning and implementation of information systems infrastructures, management of software ventures, and technology adoption and diffusion.

- Course Description
This course is meant for all working professionals who have not had the opportunity to undergo a formal management programme before, but are desirous of pursuing a marketing career. it is also for all other professionals not working in the Marketing function to better understand and appreciate the nature of this function and its linkages to their assignment and function. The course serves to familiarize participants with basic marketing concepts and its applications in business practice.
This course focuses on using features of Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheet models of different kinds of problems. The course covers representative topics on spreadsheet functions, modeling applications, data summarization and interpretation. The skills learnt in the course will facilitate analyzing and synthesizing data in an effective manner.

3. Organization and Delivery of the Course
The course comprises of 8 online sessions. The coverage comprises of the following five themes: 1) Advanced Computational Models, 2) Search and Navigation Models, 3) Dynamic Referencing, 4) Data Formatting and Arrangement, and 5) Decision Making Models. Pertaining to each of these themes, relevant Ms Excel functionalities and features will be covered.
The live class lectures will be mostly using a hands-on approach. The instructors will share the necessary concepts related to the themes, and then problems will be solved based on relevant data-sets. The session data-sets will be shared with the participants. The participants are expected to solve concept relevant problems during the sessions itself. The project component of this course will also require the participants to engage with the themes and apply them on real data sets.
